Quote on Thursday: The Euro: It´s a bad idea. It won´t last"

"The European debt bubble will become larger and the danger increases, that this bubble will burst with a much larger bang than the bang if Greece would have gone default properly" (Hans-Werner Sinn, CEO of the Ifo economy research institute in Munich). He is sure: Only the menace of going default and high interest rates can achieve enough discipline of the deficit spending countries. But Europe has forfeited this instrument with its decision for the financial rescue package. If he is right, the future of the Euro looks gloomy. Rüdiger Dornbusch, an economist who died in 2002, summarized it: "It can´t happen. It´s a bad idea. It won´t last."

How it started: The Lies about Greece

"Poor Greece"?
(Letter to the Editors)

"Takis Tsapos (Die Harke 3 May, p.3) wants to believe us, that the Greek people do not spend a good life paid by Germany and other European countries. But in the same newspaper of 5 May we read on its front page about "13 and 14 pension payments each year in Greece (!)". Mr Tsapos seems not to have done his home work properly. Yes, I too and for a long time, had the
dream, that the Euro-Union would be identical with joint European policy. Now I feel being cheated. Am I a nationalist, if I am not motivated, to rescue Greece via payment of German tax payers, because the Greek establishment has manipulated its state statistics on purpose and because Greek pensioners get payments, which are far beyond those in Germany."
